Why peptides are so fragile
Peptides are short chains of amino acids, and they break down easily — from heat, light, repeated temperature swings, and time in solution. That is exactly why they ship as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder: dry and cold, a good peptide is stable for a long time. The moment you add water, the clock starts.
Before you mix: storing the powder
Keep unreconstituted vials cold and dark. The refrigerator is fine for weeks to months; the freezer extends that to many months or longer for most peptides. Keep them in the original packaging or a dark box, away from the fridge door where temperature swings most. If a desiccant packet came with them, keep it. Let a cold vial come closer to room temperature before opening so condensation does not form inside.
The water matters
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, not plain sterile water, whenever you plan to use the vial over more than a day or two. Bacteriostatic water contains ~0.9% benzyl alcohol, which suppresses bacterial growth and gives you a usable window (commonly cited around 28 days refrigerated). Sterile or bacteriostatic — either way, swab the stopper, run the water gently down the vial wall, and swirl rather than shake.
After you mix: the cold, dark rule
Reconstituted peptides live in the refrigerator (about 2–8°C / 36–46°F), protected from light. Do not freeze a reconstituted solution — ice crystals shred the peptide and you lose potency. Keep it away from the freezer compartment and the door. Bring it out only long enough to draw, then return it.
Shelf life, realistically
As a rule of thumb, many reconstituted peptides hold up well for around 28 days in bacteriostatic water at fridge temperature, and some longer — but it varies a lot by peptide, and potency tapers gradually rather than expiring on a fixed date. When in doubt, mix smaller amounts more often so nothing sits around half-used past its window. The vial tracker can flag when a vial is getting old.
Not wasting an expensive vial
Label every reconstituted vial with the date and the concentration the moment you mix it — future-you will not remember. Never shake (foaming and shear both damage peptide). Draw with a clean technique and avoid coring the stopper. When to throw it out
Toss a vial if any of these show up — it is not worth risking an injection of degraded or contaminated material:

- →It was left warm or in light for a meaningful stretch.
